Kaizer Chiefs are understood to have agreed a deal in principle to sign a junior international from one of their DStv Premiership rivals.
As previously reported by the Siya crew, left back Sibusiso Mabiliso has been a target for the Glamour Boys and his current club AmaZulu were believed to have been informed of the interest sometime last month.
Mabiliso’s contract with Usuthu is due to expire on June 30 at which point he becomes a free agent and can pen a new deal with a club of his choice.
Indications are that he could be headed to Naturena, with Siya sources informing the crew that the 22-year-old has agreed a deal in principle to join Chiefs.
AmaZulu boss Sandile Zungu did confirm to Soccer Laduma recently that the club had offered Mabiliso a new contract, but the player had rejected it, though the chairman was reluctant to use those exact words.
He said Mabiliso was still mulling over it.
Zungu also claimed the player’s agent, Miguel Paiva, had told the club his plan was to take Mabiliso abroad and was surprised to hear Chiefs was now his likely destination.
But Amakhosi have seemingly done things by the book, with insiders revealing that the Soweto giants sent AmaZulu a letter making their intentions of signing Mabiliso clear as per the NSL handbook, regarding player transfers.
The Siya crew now has it on good authority that the defender could very well be one of several players to join Chiefs next month when their FIFA ban is finally lifted now that the two parties have agreed a deal in principle!
Paiva was not available for comment following Zungu’s statement and still could not be reached at the time of publishing today.
