The new faces at Kaizer Chiefs, with the exception of midfielder James Kotei, were on show at the weekend as Amakhosi beat Highlands Park 3-2 in their opening Absa Premiership fixture in Tembisa.
And naturally, coach Ernst Middendorp was asked for his thoughts on how Kearyn Baccus, Lazarous Kambole and Samir Nurkovic fared on debut.
The trio, along with Kotei, were brought in prior to the start of the new domestic campaign to bring in a fresh impetus following the disappointment of the previous season.
“Samir is a very good striker. Lazarous is a fantastic player. We have to understand and respect a little bit that certain guys will take a little bit longer,” Middendorp told journalists.
“Kearyn is a fantastic player, and James Kotei we haven’t used at the moment because he needs a little bit more time. He got flattened in this time (pre-season), playing 10 games in 15 days. You can see it, he is not in a way where you can bring him in at the moment. All the players are needed, it is not a one-man show.”
Baccus, though he was substituted at half-time, set up two-goal hero Lebo Manyama for his first, while Nurkovic assisted him to get his second.
Chiefs will face Black Leopards at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Saturday night in their second league clash.
