A member of the Kaizer Chiefs technical team has insinuated that certain individuals make it almost impossible for the club to sign the ‘right players’ with a profile that fits their system.
Chiefs caretaker coach Arthur Zwane has repeatedly stated his desire to see Amakhosi return to their traditional way of playing, which entails flair, freedom and good offensive style.
For the club to achieve that, Zwane believes they need to acquire the services of first-class players who can handle the pressure that comes with wearing the Amakhosi jersey.
However, Zwane has suggested that it won’t be easy for Chiefs to find suitable players to build an excellent squad for the next campaign.
“We need to find the right balance; you go to the [transfer] market as well; it is difficult; they make our lives difficult to get those players to Chiefs,” Zwane told the media.
“They are asking for our telephone numbers; that is why it is important to focus on our development.”
As far as anyone could tell, Zwane, who didn’t specify who are ‘they’, was referring to agents as interfering in the process of signing good enough players the technical team needs to bring back the glory days at the club.
“It is true that as a club, we have dropped our standard as we should be up there competing [for the league title] season in, season out,” added Zwane.
“We have to reinforce the squad; we have to beef up; we don’t have a choice. We have to. Unfortunately, there aren’t too many players out there that have got that desire and quality of playing for a team of Chiefs’ calibre.
“There are demands that come with the responsibility of playing for Chiefs, so we are headhunting, scouting and doing everything in our power to get the right players.”
