Ernst Middendorp hardly savoured the moment following a busy week for Absa Premiership log leaders Kaizer Chiefs, choosing to already discuss just how difficult he thinks Kaizer Chiefs’ next fixture away to Black Leopards will be.
Amakhosi had to squeeze in three matches in nine days and picked up six points having bounced back from their defeat to SuperSport United with back to back victories over Highlands Park and Cape Town City at FNB Stadium.
Middendorp argued that their defeat to Matsatsantsa in their opening match of the new year, was the display he was most pleased about.
“Our best game in this busy period was against SuperSport in terms of dominance, producing opportunities and we conceded an offside goal, losing 2-1. It’s about how you come out of the game and there were not a lot of things to criticise and players are sometimes surprised because it is not always about the result that tells you what happened on the field,” the coach said after Chiefs beat City 3-0 on Sunday.
“When it comes to the performance I was quite okay and was aware about it – that if we can produce it again in the next game, then we would have no issues. This is a piece of confidence and how the players are doing it, you manage it, you get the three points and it’s good for the next game. We meet Black Leopards next and I am 100 percent convinced that when we go to Venda, don’t expect good game. It’s really about doing the basics right.”
Amakhosi are currently nine points clear at the top of the table after 16 matches.
