Chiefs Prep First Signing With Medical?

Kaizer Chiefs appear to have made a decision on what could be their first official signing with news that the player is having a medical.

The club confirmed this week that Jardel Nazaré has been training with the first team and being assessed by coach Gavin Hunt.

He is a free agent, given that he’s not been attached to any team since December last year and the Siya crew has been informed that Nazaré has impressed.

Chiefs can finally register players as of July 1 when their two window transfer ban is lifted and with Nazaré is having a medical that’s usually a good indication the two parties are moving closer to making his Naturena stay permanent.

The little known defender was born in Portugal and has had his youth development abroad, but because of his ties to Sao Tome, Nazaré has recently become part of their squad and twice featured against Bafana Bafana in their back-to-back Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November. He played the full 90 minutes in both matches.

It’s no secret that Amakhosi are overloaded with left sided defensive players like Siphosakhe Ntiya-Ntiya, Philani Zulu and Yagan Sasman.

They also expect Sifiso Hlanti to join them next season having initially been signed prior to their appeal to have the FIFA ban overturned in October.

Hlanti joined Swallows on short-term deal.

Sibusiso Mabiliso is also understood to be on his way to Chiefs from AmaZulu next season.

A medical could very well be a formality, which then would suggest Amakhosi not only have to make room for Nazaré in defence, but may have to offload one of their foreign players as well unless some qualify for permanent residency.

Premier Soccer League clubs are only allowed a maximum of five non-South African players, but it would appear Chiefs are moving quickly to snap up a player who has also attracted interest in the Portugal and Spanish lower leagues.
