‘Chiefs Should Hire Cavin Johnson As Head Coach’

The name of veteran coach, Cavin Johnson, has been suggested for a role at Kaizer Chiefs, although the Soweto giants currently have a coach in Ernst Middendorp.

Following another disappointing season for Chiefs, after the club lost to TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup final which was their last chance for a trophy this past season, speculation has been rife regarding Middendorp’s future with the club.

However, indications are that Middendorp will remain in charge as Chiefs’ head coach for the start of a new season with the team on his second stint with the club, after he took over halfway through the past season from Giovanni Solinas.

With the debate ongoing on whether the German coach is the right man for the Amakhosi coaching job, former Chiefs midfielder Junior Khanye, who played under Middendorp during the mentor's first stint with the club, says he would like to see the ex-Maritzburg United coach replaced by current AmaZulu coach Cavin Johnson in Naturena.

“I would love to see Cavin Johnson coaching Kaizer Chiefs. He can be assisted by Dan ‘Dance’ (Malesela). Cavin Johnson is a very knowledgeable coach and he understands South African football,” Khanye told the Siya crew.

“I like his philosophy as he is the kind of a coach who allows his players to express themselves the way they know how on the field. I have had conversations with him before and I could tell that he is a very knowledgeable coach. Chiefs should hire Cavin Johnson (if they are to look for a new coach in the future). He (Johnson) can do well with Dan Dance in his technical team,” added the Daveyton-born player.

According to Khanye, former Free State Stars’ Belgian coach Luc Eymael, as well as Maritzburg’s Eric Tinkler are the other coaches he would recommend for the Amakhosi role, with the name of former Orlando Pirates assistant coach Zipho Dlangalala coming up for a potential assistant coaching role in Naturena.

Khanye has reiterated that he would like to see Farouk Khan joining Chiefs’ development structures.
