Official Update From CAS On Chiefs Ban

The Court of Arbitration for Sport has finally given an update on Kaizer Chiefs’ appeal of their two-window FIFA ban handed down earlier this year.

Chiefs were found guilty by the world football governing body in February for the way in which they went about signing Madagascar international ‘Dax’ in 2018 and as things stand the Glamour Boys are restricted from registering any new players until the July/August transfer window of the 2021/22 season.

He was recruited from amateur outfit Fosa Juniors FC.

‘Dax’, the player at the centre of the FIFA ban, was also told he could not play football for a period of four months, though he has served his time since and will return to the pitch as of June 7 and will be available for Black Leopards, a club he joined after leaving Chiefs, when the Premier Soccer League domestic season does resume in the coming weeks.

CAS has now confirmed on its official website that the hearing involving ‘Dax’, Chiefs, FIFA and Fosa will now be heard on September 9 and is likely to be via video conferencing because of the travel restrictions enforced by the Coronavirus pandemic.

Chiefs appealed within 21 days of FIFA confirming the ban and will be hoping it can be overturned, though it is unclear at this stage whether they can sign new players while they are still challenging world football body’s sanction.
