Kaizer Chiefs

Chiefs Boss On Bayern Munich Comparison…

Stuart Baxter, in his first spell at Kaizer Chiefs, predicted the club could build a dynasty and dominate much like a Bayern Munich in Germany.

Has he now changed his tune upon his return six years later or does the Englishman still reckon Amakhosi are well on their way?

The lack of trophies, given that Baxter is the last coach in 2015 to win any silverware with the club, suggests the Glamour Boys have fallen behind.

“We are living in different times, I don’t mean Covid, but I mean if you look at the other teams at that time when I was here – the standard of coaching now is better,” Baxter said in a press conference ahead of their DStv Premiership clash at home against Chippa United.

“More teams are well-organised and more can beat each other. The bigger teams have pushed on at the same pace, if not more than Chiefs.”

He is right.

Mamelodi Sundowns look more likely to dominate than Amakhosi, they are chasing a record fifth league title this season.

It’s the Brazilians that might resemble anything like Munich, who have won the Bundesliga a record nine times in a row!

Baxter, while he will be hoping to change the downward spiral at Naturena, explained why he believed this would be a long road.

“I think it will take more time for Chiefs to find that edge and move away from their competition to put themselves in a position of Bayern Munich or a very dominant force. Do I think there’s a potential to do it, yes! But do I think it would be as easy as I thought at that time? No, because I think everybody else has closed that gap and some teams have probably kicked on a little bit further,” the coach said.
