Chiefs made three changes from the goalless draw in the first-leg, as Bernard Paker and Leonardo Castro were recalled alongside a first start for youngster Darrel Matsheke. Meanwhile Samir Nurkovic started from the bench.

Amakhosi sat deep in their own half and were nearly punished midway through the first stanza as Primeiro missed a big chance with a through ball inside the box.

The hosts came close to breaking the deadlock again a minute later after they got past goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi, who was out of his area but Eric Mathoho recovered in time to make a clearance near the goal-line.

After Pacienca missed a one-on-one chance with Akpeyi, Primeiro were punished immediately thereafter on a counter-attack after Castro guided home a cross by Khama Billiat on the left channel and Chiefs went to the break leading 1-0.

Gavin Hunt' charges continued to absorb the pressure in the early stages of the second stanza and Akpeyi played a crucial role in collecting crosses in the air by Primeiro.

Amakhosi were waiting for their chances on counter-attacks but they could not get clear openings and Hunt brought on Nurkovic in the last quarter of an hour in place of Castro for fresh legs while Daniel Cardorso replaced Matsheke in the same moment to close at the back.

Salvador came close to getting the equaliser for Primeiro in the last three minutes with a close-range header that was saved by Akpeyi.

Chiefs managed the game well after that, having the confidence to attack and they clinched a 1-0 win on the evening and also on aggregate to book a spot in the group stages for the first time while Primeiro fell down to the CAF Confederation Cup group stage play-offs.

Here's how they lined up:

Chiefs: Akpeyi, Mphahlele, Mathoho, Zulu, Ngezana, Matsheke, Blom, Parker, Castro, Kambole, Billiat

Subs: Bvuma, Cardoso, Moleko, Ngcobo, Mashiane, Zuma, Nurković
