Chiefs made five changes from the draw with Swallows, as Eric Mathoho, Reeve Frosler, Njabulo Blom, Dumisani Zuma and Samir Nurkovic were all recalled while Bruce Bvuma continued in goals ahead of Daniel Akpeyi.

The hosts got off to the perfect start after Mathoho opened the scoring in the sixth minute with a header at the back post after a flick on by Nurkovic from Bernard Parker's corner.

Gavin Hunt's nearly doubled their lead in the 24th minute from another set-piece, as Daniel Cardoso latched onto a diagonal cross by Parker at the back post but could not direct his out-stretched shot on target.

The second goal did come, with Nurkovic doubling the lead for Amakhosi 11 minutes before the break with a close-range header from Reeve Frosler's inviting cross.

Hunt was forced into a change immediately after that, as Zuma went down injured and was replaced by Leonardo Castro as the hosts took a healthy to the break.

After absorbing the pressure and playing on counter-attacks after from the break, Nurkovic added the third goal just before the hour-mark with a smashing volley into the far corner after a headed clearance from the back.

Simba were sending numbers forward, creating spaces for Chiefs on the break which allowed Castro to make it 4-0 for the hosts with three minutes later with a header from Lebogang Manyama's cross.

Clatous Chama came close to getting an away goal for the Reds of Msimbazi in the 73rd minute with a strike that sailed just wide of the upright, before Hunt introducd Nkosongiphile Ngcobo replaced Manyama for fresh legs in midfield.

Bvuma was called into action in the last eight minutes, after pulling off a great save towards the top corner as Amakhosi held on to a resounding win ahead of the second leg in a week's time.
