Keagan Dolly has become Kaizer Chiefs’ priority marquee signing ahead of the 2021/22 season, the Siya crew has been led to believe.
Initially, the Glamour Boys were reportedly eyeing Luis Miquissone, a former Mamelodi Sundowns winger now on the books of Simba SC in Tanzania and expected to join Al Ahly before the close of the transfer window.
With the Egyptians reaching an agreement with Simba last week over Miquissone’s possible move, it’s thought Chiefs had already taken a decision to look elsewhere for what could be their biggest signing so far since their FIFA ban was lifted.
The Siya crew reported at the weekend that Dolly had attracted interest in North Africa as well as France, with one offer tabled!
But it’s now understood the 28-year-old could be staying home in South Africa after all, with Naturena his likely destination.
Amakhosi, if keen on getting the deal over the line, were expected to move swiftly to try tie down Dolly to a contract, now that he has decided against going abroad, where Al Ahly were also desperate to sign him.
Dolly became a free agent at the end of the previous season, having spent four years at Montpellier in the French Ligue 1, and indications are that he is open to returning home to Mzansi if the offer is lucrative enough.
According to insiders, Miquissone’s representative have not heard from Amakhosi since the player was linked with a move to Naturena earlier this year, just several weeks after Simba lost to Chiefs in the CAF Champions League quarterfinals.
It’s an indication that the Glamour Boys have their priorities set elsewhere in a player that is more experienced and would not fill up their foreign quota.
There are doubts over whether Miquissone will deliver at Ahly, given he barely played for Downs, but perhaps Mosimane has plans to improve him.
Chiefs snapping up Dolly, on the other hand, is a massive coup!
