Billiat Back Among The Goals As Chiefs Drop Points

Absa Premiership

Result SuperSport United 1-1 Kaizer Chiefs

Date: 15 March 2019

Venue: Mbombela Stadium

Kaizer Chiefs’ slim chances of challenging for the Absa Premiership title were dented after they dropped points against SuperSport United at Mbombela Stadium.

Amakhosi made two changes from their narrow win against Maritzburg United, as  Nkosingiphile Ngcobo made his first start while Willard Katsande returned to the midfield.

Matsatsantsa grabbed the lead as early as the second minute courtesy of Mxolisi Macuphu, who powered home a close-range header into a gaping net after Chiefs goalkeeper Bruce Bvuma parried Modiba’s initial strike into his path.

Chiefs did not have wait too long for the equaliser when Khama Billiat restored parity in 14th minute with a cracking strike from just outside the box that left Ronwen Williams with no chance.

The Glamour Boys had the momentum towards the half-hour and had enough chances to go ahead but they were denied by the brilliance of United goalkeeper Ronwen Williams, while some of the finishing left a lot to be desired.

Clayton Daniels came close to restoring SuperSport's lead nine minutes after the break with a glancing header at the near post that sailed inches wide of the upright.

Tembo made his first change on the hour-mark as Bongani Khumalo came on for Siyabonga Nhlapo while Middendorp threw on Teenage Hadebe for Ntiya-Ntiya.

Chiefs were forced to make another substitution with 15 minutes remaining as the influential Ngcobo went down with injury and was replaced by Philani Zulu.

The pace of the match was the complete opposite of the first half, which led to a lack clear-cut chances on both ends of the pitch. However, that was the trend for the rest of the half as the two sides settled for a share of the spoils.
