Mokoena’s Thoughts On Chiefs And The League Title

Bafana Bafana legend, Aaron Mokoena gave his thoughts on where the Absa Premiership league title should go if the season does not resume.

The Premier Soccer League are yet to communicate the plans for the 2019/20 campaign, this after several meetings were held over the past few weeks.

While the government gave the green light for both contact and non-contact training to resume, clubs in the PSL have been urged to remain patient until the league confirms the way forward.

However, with the continuous spread of the coronavirus in the country, there is still no certainty as to whether football will make its return during the current circumstances.

Speaking to Soccer Laduma in an exclusive interview, Mokoena, who regards himself as an Orlando Pirates supporter, was asked whether it would be fair to hand the title over to Kaizer Chiefs, should the season be unable to resume.

“Oh boy! Now you’re putting me in a corner. Eish, I’m a Pirates supporter. You got me there,” he said.

“For sure. (it’s tight in the PSL) I mean, you have Sundowns with a game in hand. Anything can happen. Chiefs could drop points, Sundowns could win games, so it’s difficult and not as clear-cut. As hard as it is to say for me, if the league does not start up again, then why not let the first place in the league take the league. Chiefs have done well to be where they are, and based on games played, they are rightfully at the top and so would be deserved winners,” the 39-year-old added.
