It seems we are finally seeing exactly what Clive Barker was saying when he compared Themba Zwane to the great Doctor Khumalo in 2014.
The past two seasons have finally shown us that the undisputed talent of ‘Mshishi’, as Zwane is affectionately known in football circles. While Zwane was on loan from Sundowns at Mpumalanga Black Aces, he was playing under the tutelage of former Bafana-Bafana AFCON winning coach, Clive Barker and the mentor described Zwane as an exceptional player.
Barker went as far as mentioning some of the greatest players he has coached before, such as Sugar Ray Xulu in the 1970s, Doctor Khumalo, Shoes Moshoeu, Phil Masinga and Mark Fish in the 80s, but he was still adamant that Themba Zwane is the best player he has ever coached and that it was an injustice that he wasn’t in the national team at the time.
It seems now justice is served as we have seen Zwane donning the Bafana Bafana jersey under Stuart Baxter.
Do you think Zwane deserves to be compared to the legends from the 70s and 80s?
