In the past two matches that Kaizer Chiefs have played, they have ended up settling for draws.
It was, in many fans’ opinions, that the results were because of technical changes, changes to the starting line up, injuries and suspensions. However, considering all the international and European experience of Siyanda Xulu, he is the only player that can partner Erick Mathoho for Chiefs with distinction.
He may be a bit rusty because of a lack of game time thus far, but, in terms of defensive duties, he can do a better job than Daniel Cardoso. Taking nothing from Cardoso, he doesn’t read the game very well and he often gets caught on the back foot and is easily beaten by the opposition.
Xulu has played in Russia and for Bafana Bafana for a couple of years and that gives him an edge over Cardoso. He is a former Mamelodi Sundowns defender and he has a great understanding of playing for a big club.
However, despite all the troubles that the defender has faced, he still has much to offer Kaizer Chiefs. When he first arrived at Naturena, he was a regular starter under Steve Komphela’s mentorship. With a few games left to be featured in, he can quickly reclaim his excellent form and be great for Amakhosi again.
