Kaizer Chiefs lost to Bidvest Wits on the opening day of the 2016/17 campaign at the Bidvest Stadium last night.
Chiefs went into the clash as favourites to win, but Gavin Hunt's men humbled the Mighty Amakhosi in a game that was largely dominated by The Students, but it was Amakhosi' midfielder George Lebese who disappointed largely even though the winger is one of Steve Komphela's trusted players.
Lots of supporters believe he can be the best at Naturena, but the opening game proved otherwise. The Mamelodi-born winger was average on the night, and fans on social media moaned about his laziness. He's accused of being lazy, blowing hot and cold occasions, and being nowhere when he's most needed.
Only ‘Pule’ Ekstein and William Twala displayed glimpses of brilliance. The winger left Amakhosi fans with more questions than answers, and many called for Komphela to drop him. Even though he tried his best, it was just not enough. Elias Pelembe toyed with Lebese on the evening, forcing Bra Steve to take him off.
The question on everyone's lips is if whether Lebese could reach his full potential. For the past two season he looked to have come out of age, but seems stuck somewhere between his laziness and greatness. He was tipped to be amongst Chiefs legends such as Doctor Khumalo, Ace Khuse and the likes. But if his performance last night is anything to go by, he's doomed to be a big disappointment.
Do you think George Lebese can reach his full potential?
