After the match between Kaizer Chiefs and ABC Motsepe side Acornbush United, Macdonald Makhubedu questioned South African football and said he's worried about future of SA football if Chiefs is the biggest team in the country.
Makhubedu later apologised for his comments. But after listening to Chiefs fans’ comments on SLTV, where the Khosi fan call Chiefs ''the kings of S.A football'', Makhubedu's question resonated and it’s really worrying and makes one wonder where South African football will end up if team like Chiefs are being called Kings.
This is not a political race and you do not campaign for votes for that ''King'' position. This is football and your merchandise sales or fanbase count for nothing when it comes to being labelled as Kings, especially when you hardly reach continental competitions group stages. They also only have four league titles, but they regard themselves as Kings.
Maybe Arsenal are also the Premier League’s Gods with their FA titles. If Chiefs are the Kings, then what you call Sundowns? Seven Leagues titles and a CAF Champions League title. If Chiefs are the Kings of SA football, then our football is going to suffer. Even Barcelona are not the Spanish Kings and they know that.
