The kind of football played by our PSL teams need to change. This past weekend was round two of the Absa Premiership. On Friday I watched the match between Highlands Park and Maritzburg United.
On Saturday, I then watched an encounter between Polokwane city and Amazulu.
In the two games viewed, I noticed two similarities, teams took two touches on the ball before looting it up field.
The problem with high balls is that it becomes a 50/50 situation and most of the times, the attacking team lose possession of the ball. I was fortunate enough to watch a game between Cape Town City and Stellenbosch FC. Coach Benni McCarthy’s boys played great football by putting the ball down and playing it on the deck.
Local teams need to do away with playing high balls and play carpet football.
