New Bafana Bafana captain, Thulani "Tyson" Hlatshwayo has the heart of a lion and leads by example whenever he plays.
The defender is a soldier, a true leader who is without fear. He came through the junior national setup and now he's the man to rely on for coach Stuart Baxter in terms of leadership on and off the field.
Tyson has character;e’s very disciplined and passionate about the game, he's an aggressive defender who doesn’t pull out whenever he goes for a tackle. As evidence, the Bidvest Wits captain formed a solid defensive partnership with his teammate, Buhle Mkhwanazi that conquered the PSL in this past season.
His combination with Mkhwanazi was the best for the 2016/2017 season as it produced some crucial goals along the way that helped Gavin Hunt’s charges to claim the title for the first time in the club’s history.
During Bafana’s match against Nigeria, Tyson, again, showed his class alongside Erick Mathoho when they kept the Super Eagle’s attackers at bay for the entire 90 minutes. He was resilient and committed, making sure that Bafana Bafana came away with an important victory for the first time in a competitive match against their esteemed opponents.
As a defender, Tyson has all abilities to match any striker that he plays against. He's very good in the air, he can read the game very well and he’s very strong. He always brings his A-game, even if things are not going well for his side.
What did you think about Tyson’s performance against Nigeria?
