We all know that South Africa has previously produced world class strikers, we had Siyabonga Nomvete, Benni McCarthy, and the late Lesley Manyathela.
Today we only produce midfielders and defenders that have the potential to become great footballers; players like Bongani Zungu, Keagan Dolly, Phakamani Mahlambi to name but a few. Our striking department is short on quality strikers, as SAFA even tried the Dutch-based striker, Lars Veldwijk, but he not convincing. However, our country does have promising talent and there are a few players who should at least be given call-ups to the national team - players such as Lerato Lamola, Prince Nxumalo, Lerato Manzini and Dino Ndlovu who is playing overseas.
These players could be goal scoring machines when you find the correct combination and their style of play could fit the criteria of South African football. These strikers are comfortable with the ball at their feet and they can get into dangerous positions to hurt the opponents, they are great finishers and most of all, they are team players who can go box to box when needed to defend.
Therefore, these players need to be given a chance. The striking department has no depth and there are players show signs that they could be the answer to our below par performances.
