Mamelodi Sundowns have been flying high this season. In fact, the team has been outstanding for the greater part of this campaign.
Pitso Mosimane's charges have been so brilliant, they almost brought down Kaizer Chiefs' 19-game unbeaten record. At one point Downs looked like they'd win the league with couple of games to go.
A 13-10 point gap they opened at the top and stood for a quite while. Even after their star performer, Bongani Zungu, got injured Downs sailed along. But it now appears like the Chloorkop-based outfit's ship has hit the tip of the iceberg. Mosimane's troops saw the gap at the gap get narrowed to a mere four points by Bidvest Wits.
Gavin Hunt's men were at some point looking totally out of Masandawana's reach. One would be forgiven for writing The Students off and for prematurely giving the league title to Downs long before the league ends. Now things look very interesting at the top, with Wits breathing down Masandawana's neck. With 'Ben10' and Hlompho Kekana in the middle of the park, Downs looked untouchable and unstoppable.
But lately the yellow train of Pretoria seems to have lost its pace, allowing Wits to be within reach of them. I believe now Pitso's charges are starting to miss Zungu. It's possible that his absence is starting to show, and Sundowns are feeling the pinch.
Do you think Sundowns are missing Zungu?
