Mamelodi Sundowns have had congested matches in the past, where they’ve played three matches in seven days.
Everyone saw it from a mile away, but with the quality players that the team boasts it seemed as if they had it all figured out. However, the drop in form and the growing injury list were a sign that fatigue is starting to catch up with the team.
Sundowns have some good players on their bench who still have to show what they can do; players who were brought in to relieve the workload on some key players as they look to defend their league title. Players such as Fares Hachi, Yannick Zakri, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Thapelo Morena, Lucky Mohomi and Anele Ngcongca were all seen as great players that would respond every time that they called upon.
Yet we can't avoid the fact that Sundowns have quality in the MDC. The MDC moulds these players and David Notoane's boys seem to have been affected by the success of the first team. Players from MDC team came to the first team and have impressed on the field - players like Tiyani Mabunda, who is now a key player, Motjeka Madisha, who is grabbing the opportunity with both hands, and Percy Tau, who was in the MDC team before going on loan to Witbank Spurs. Samuel Julies is also performing very well.
The MDC still has great players to feed to the first team like Keletso Makgalwa, who is their danger man, and Flavio Bento. Whether Sundowns will give these youngsters a nod in the future remains to be seen, but the boys are calling and the voices are loud.
