Bidvest Wits have claimed their maiden PSL title with an emphatic win over Polokwane City, while Mamelodi Sundowns were tamed to a 2-2 draw by Maritzburg United. Gavin Hunts' side has always looked good to win the title and have finally done so for the first time in the club’s history.
Gavin Hunt has managed to put together a formidable team, with arguably the best squad in the PSL. The likes of Moeneeb Josephs and Daine Klate are some of the most experienced and decorated players in the country, while Thabang Monare and Phakamani Mahlambi could be chased by big teams soon, given their youth and sheer quality. The students boast talents such as Mogakolodi Ngele, Jabulani Shongwe, Granwald Scott, Phumlani Ntshangase, Sifiso Hlanti, Sifiso Myeni, Darren Keet and James Keene. The squad has real depth, which is the reason why they have won the double this season.
Wits opened their season by beating Sundowns in the MTN8 and have beaten the same team to take away their league title, which they won last season. Pitso Mosimane will be a very disappointed man after failing to defend the title, but credit must be given to Hunt who has now won his fourth PSL title.
