Kaizer Chiefs are reportedly looking at the possibility of luring Steven Pienaar to Naturena.
'Schillo' is now a free agent after his club, Sunderland, got relegated. Amakhosi are now said to be looking to bolster their squad for the next Premier Soccer League campaign, in order to be more competitive. Kaizer Motaung Snr admitted recently that their scouting hasn't been up to standard. But going for Pienaar is like taking that statement back.
'Schillo' is 35-years-old and they shouldn't make the mistake of bringing a Zlatan Ibrahimovic type of signing in to justify Chiefs' interest in him. At the beginning of this season, Amakhosi let go of Reneilwe Letsholonyane, who was a vital cog in Chiefs' success in recent seasons. ‘Yeye’ was still going strong, even at age 34, and playing better than most young players in the PSL.
Most of Chiefs fans didn't agree with Yeye's departure but accepted it when young players got promoted to the first team. Now, with a possibility of signing Pienaar, this would be five steps backwards, considering the changes Amakhosi rang in last season. They need to build for the future and not look for quick fixes, of which Pienaar is.
Do you think that signing Pienaar would be a mistake for Chiefs?
