Steve Komphela is now about to complete his second season with Kaizer Chiefs, but, under his guidance, Amakhosi are yet to lift a trophy.
Even though it looks like Komphela has the management’s support along with some of the fans, the rumours in the media suggest that Komphela is as good as gone at Naturena. It was rumoured last year that Ruud Krol is waiting for Steve to finish the season and then the former Orlando Pirates coach will take over.
Another name is Muhsin Ertugral, who, after he was spotted at Cape Town stadium watching Chiefs play Cape Town City last week, many believe that he will return to Chiefs’ bench. It’s unlike Kaizer Chiefs to go two seasons without silverware and should Komphela fail to win the league, the writing may be on the wall. The Khosi faithful will need some changes within the technical team, as some fans blame Komphela for Chiefs’ drought.
The big question is, how long will it take Ruud Krol to build a team that can win a cup for the Khosination? Should he replace Steve? Who should take the chiefs coaching role, Ruud Krol or Muhsin Ertugral?
Does Steve Komphela deserve another chance or should be shown the exit door?
