It has become a norm for Bafana Bafana head coach, Shakes Mashaba, to raise a few eyebrows whenever he selects his squad.
As the adage goes, a leopard never changes its spots. Mashaba is still as defiant as he was back in 2003 when he selected a very mediocre side ahead of a friendly clash against England, who had arrived with their full strength squad. This led to SAFA sidelining Mashaba and Jomo Sono took charge of that particular game.
Fast forward to more than a decade later, and the Bafana mentor is still notorious for his shocking team selections. The country's reputation is at stake and Mashaba's arrogance will do us no good. It boggles one's mind how he has selected unfit players ahead of in-form ones. With all due respect to him, Jackson Mabokgwane didn't deserve to be selected ahead of Sherwyn Naicker.
The Jomo Cosmos goalie has been brilliant this season, bar the Orlando Pirates game. Did William Twala really deserve a call-up more than Thabo Rakhale? You be the judge. What about Thamsanqa Gabuza's inclusion, however for the sake of the nation we wish Mashaba and the boys all the best.
Are you happy with the squad selected to face the indomitable lions of Cameroon?
