Following Bidvest Wits' 1-0 win over Orlando Pirates earlier this week, Gavin Hunt praised the performance of Haashim Domingo at the Orlando Stadium.
This poses the question: Why has Domingo not earned a cap for Bafana Bafana already?
Maybe it is because Dominigo was on the books of Vitória Guimarães B in Portugal until June 2018 - when he was eventually signed by Wits. Hence he has not been plying his trade in South Africa when recent Bafana Bafana squads have been announced.
On a pitiful note Domingo is not alone. A South African has played consistently in the English Premier League for the past three seasons, but has still not earned even a single Bafana Bafana cap.
This player is Bournemouth's Andrew Surman, who has yet to be persuaded to play for Bafana. However, surely it is time now for the South African Football Association and Stuart Baxter to do this, because Surman's experience of playing with and against quality international players will be of enormous value to Bafana's PSL players.
Both Shakes Mashaba and Stuart Baxter have failed to continue Gordon Igesund's policy of meeting and getting overseas players to play for Bafana - like Igesund did with Ricardo Nunes for example.
Furthermore, Stuart Baxter should follow the approach of Avram Grant, when he has manager of Ghana. Grant travelled to Europe and America in order to monitor Ghanaian players playing in leagues in different countries.
Therefore, by following Grant's approach, Baxter will avoid forgetting about South Africa's "hidden gems" in Europe.
What do you say, should players abroad be representing Bafana Bafana more often?
