As things stand, Orlando Pirates are in reverse gear, falling below the top eight teams and should they fail to make the top eight, the current players harm the club’s reputation.
Pirates are regarded as arguably the second biggest team in South Africa after Kaizer Chiefs, but to be honest with ourselves, Pirates aren’t above Mamelodi Sundowns. Even head-to-head stats proves that Downs had been dominating ever since Angelo Tsichlas took over as chairman at Downs in 1988. Since then, Pirates have won fewer trophies than the Brazilians.
This proves that, even though Pirates have never finished outside of the top eight in the PSL era, they have become weak as a big team. Only their fan base puts them among big teams, and, unless another business man with great ideas comes in and buys Pirates, they will not remain amongst the big teams, and one can feel bad for supporters because they are the ones that suffer the most.
Are Pirates bigger than Downs?
