Abubaker Mobara is another clear example of a good youth development structures that have been implemented at Ajax Cape Town’s youth academy.
The Ikamva-based side is one of the PSL clubs, along with Bidvest Wits and SuperSport United, who pride themselves by assembling well-structured academies that produce quality youngsters like Mobara. Once again, the Cape Town-born player has shown his versatility at Orlando Pirates, the club for which he currently plays.
During his days at Ajax, Roger De Sa often used him as a right-back or a centre back partner for Rivaldo Coetzee. In the U20s and U23s junior national teams, coaches like Owen da Gama preferred him in central midfield and at right-back sometimes.
He seems to excel at all of the roles that he’s taken on throughout the years. He's also a very disciplined and well-mannered player. Many will still remember him with his heroic performances in the Rio Olympic Games last year, where alongside Highlands Park's Mothobi Mvala, he marked Neymar out of the game.
His good attitude toward football has resulted in the goals that he recently scored in the Nedbank Cup. He's become one of a few players that always shows determination and full commitment in every game he plays in. He's a versatile king as he can play different roles to show off his skills. Furthermore, with few Bafana Bafana caps to his name, the future is bright for Mobara.
