Eric Tinkler’s Maritzburg United is playing great football and attracts a huge support base at home that can't afford to see their beloved Team of Choice going down to the National First Division.
Maritzburg has been rooted at the basement of the Absa Premiership log standings for a better part of the 2018/19 season only to cheat the law of gravity at the eleventh hour. Tinkler’s men are currently battling it out in the relegation/promotional play-offs and their form in this mini league can only give the people of Pietermaritzburg a glimmer of hope.
Maritzburg star player Fortune Makaringe has been a key member of this squad. With his performances noticed by Bafana Bafana coach Stuart Baxter, he was granted a spot in his provisional African Cup of Nations squad. Makaringe is a wanted man and the ‘Big Three’ are reportedly chasing after the star's signature but he has to save Maritzburg from the chop first before making that choice.
Tinkler found the team in shambles and managed to save them from the automatic chop. The former Bafana Bafana hard man has done a stellar job and should be applauded!
