Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela, is currently heading towards the end of his second season with Amakhosi. However, he has no trophies to show for it.
On Saturday, his team crashed out of the Nedbank Cup, which was believed to be his last hope. Considering that the league title race appears to be up for grabs for Bidvest Wits, Cape Town City and Mamelodi Sundowns, with only six matches to play still, it’s hard to say whether Chiefs might stand a chance of winning the league, knowing that, at this stage, every team is fighting for everything that they have.
Should he fail to claim silverware, that will surely mean the end of the road for him. The downfall for the former Maritzburg United coach is the way that he applies his tactics for Amakhosi. If you look at Saturday’s match, you can tell that Komphela was playing a defensive game instead of attacking.
He waited until they scored him before he changed to attack and that costed him, because if he attacked from the beginning we could have been telling a different story today.
Having said that, is Komphela making or breaking Chiefs?
