It was not long ago that a new era was introduced in South African football, the Patrice Motsepe era.
When Motsepe took over the reins at the Chloorkop, he said that he had a vision and the only thing that he wanted was to turn Downs into a dominant force in South African football and Africa at large.
Many thought that this vision was just a dream that it might take too long to achieve, because Pirates and Chiefs were the talk of the town, but how wrong were those people? Today Sundowns are on cruise control and this was made even easier for Motsepe by his two main competitors in Dr Irvin Khoza and Kaizer Motaung.
Sundowns almost competed with themselves in the previous league campaign, on their way to their record breaking league triumph. While many thought that the one-sided domination would perhaps ignite the spark from their competitors, that proved to be nothing but a stone thrown in the dark as Downs were the most impressive in the transfer market by signing most, if not all, the most sought after players including Vilakazi, Ngcongca and Morena.
Now, it seems that Sundowns could dominate for years to come and Motsepe’s rivals have done very little to stop him.
Do you think Khoza and Motaung are making it too easy for Motsepe to dominate the PSL?
