Bafana Bafana stunned most of South africa when they managed to come back from Cameroon with a point.
Their performance was very impressive and i think anyone who watched the game will agree that they outplayed the Indomitable Lions. Hlompho Kekana scored an absolute scorcher but did he also cement his place in the Bafana midfield? Decididng which players to pick in the Bafana Bafana midfield is probably Shakes Mashabas most difficult decision, as there is a huge amount of depth and quality in that position.
With Jali, Furman, Zungu, Mokotjo, Manyisa etc, Shakes has rarely experimented with his midfield combinations going with a Furman/Jali or a Zungu/Jali central midfield combination. Partnering Kekana with Jali seemed like a no brainer considering the fact that Furman is horribly out of form and Zungu is still on th sidelines, but Mashaba might have just stumbled across the perfect partnership. Furman and Zungu are both great at keeping possession and moving the ball around but neither of them are goal threats. Kekana can defend and attack, he has a great engine on him and is not afraid to get physical. When last did Bafana have a midfielder capable of scoring goals?
Hlompho Kekana is exactly what Bafana Bafana need in the midfield, he may not be an elegant passer of the ball like Zungu or a workhorse like Furman but he provides a serious goal threat.
Should Kekana be a Bafana regular?
