“It’s Time For Chiefs To Take Their Reputation Seriously” – Reader’s Voice

Kaizer Chiefs dynamo, Kaizer Motaung, openly admitted that the club has been signing the wrong players for the club. The transfer strategy of going for free agents has backfired and the Glamour Boys are now on a run of two consecutive trophyless seasons for the first time in their illustrious history.

Chiefs have embarrassed themselves and their supporters with signings such as Sula Matovu, Bongani Ndulula and David Zulu, just to name a few. They also failed to acquire players such as Sibusiso Vilakazi. This is because the Amakhosi management has refused to be held for ransom. The club’s multitude of supporters have been teased by rival supporters and so it’s time for Chiefs to take their reputation seriously and open up the chequebook to buy the best available talent once again.

Chiefs have signed a few quality free agents such as Gustavo Paez and Joseph Molangoane, but it has not been enough. Chiefs must sign the likes of Thulani Serero and Jabulani Shongwe, players who have expiring contracts at their clubs, but are high quality and would fit the clubs' playing style. It is also time for the club to spend money on talent to complement their policy of promoting talent from their own youth academy.
