The newly founded Cape Town-based side, Cape Town City is currently flourishing under the mentorship of former Bafana Bafana player and Orlando Pirates coach, Eric Tinkler.
It has not been long since the team was rebranded after owner, John Comitis bought Mpumalanga Black Aces and relocated the club. Yet, a year later, fans are proud to say that Cape Town City are the Telkom Knockout champions, after beating SuperSport United in the final last December.
Tinkler's men have been in fine form, which saw them claim the number one spot in the league for a lengthy period. And last week we saw them ending Kaizer Chiefs' unbeaten streak in a league encounter which made their opponent's title hopes to look uncertain.
The club now find itself second on the log with five games to go before the season ends and trailing by one point behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, with the Chloorkop based side edging closer to the title.
There is now a possibility that the club might go all the way to be the Leicester City of the Premier Soccer League, should the leading team hold their own against tough opponents in the form of Bidvest Wits and Orlando Pirates, they could emulate the fairytale title-winning campaign that Leicester City managed in the 2015/16 English Premier League season
Do you think that Cape Town City can become Mzansi’s Leicester City?
