The idea of using local coaches in the big three should be prioritised for the sake of Bafana Bafana. Last season, Kaizer Chiefs, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns were coached by locals.
This season, only Chiefs and Downs remain under local coaches’ mentorship, but things aren't going well for Amakhosi, which means soon we might see some changes in that regard. Should it be so, one would like to see them stick with a local coach.
Knowing that there are still more experienced coaches who are jobless, Gordon Igesund is one of them, and his knowledge can play a different role in Naturena, taking to account that Gordon has won a lot of silverware in his career.
Furthermore, perhaps Igesund can bring a disciplined approach to Chiefs players, because, recently, they seem to be out of control and, hence, they aren't grinding results for their current coach, Steve Komphela, who is believed to be much too soft on Chiefs’ players.
With that in mind, Igesund should replace Steve Komphela at Naturena, or Chiefs’ management should keep them both, with Komphela as an assistant. And one may question this, but look at Downs, who have Pitso Mosimane and Manqoba Mngqithi and are getting results.
Having said that, should Chiefs rope in Gordon Igesund?
