Fairness In World Cup Qualification – Reader’s Voice

With the conclusion of the FIFA 2018 World Cup qualifiers I have taken interest in the continents that will be represented in the World Cup.

UEFA has 55 members and 14 representatives while CAF has 54 members and only 5 representatives in the World Cup.

On the other side, CONMEBOL has only 10 members and 5 representatives while OFC has 11 members and is not even represented in the World Cup.

Where is the fairness in that? FIFA needs to revise its qualification process so that all the continents can be fairly represented in the biggest football stage of them all.

For the sake of entertainment and revenue it makes sense to fill the World Cup with the powerhouses of Europe and South America but for the sake of fairness, it does not make sense especially now that one continent is not represented at all.

Yes I understand that it would be boring watching the unknown teams from the OFC competing in the World Cup but for the sake of uniting the world through football and sportsmanship and all that is good about the sport.

I feel that FIFA has a long way to go to make things right.
