FA Cup Folly by Jurgen Klopp....

Liverpool's rivals will be rubbing their hands together at the Red's meek exit from the English FA Cup against Wolves last night. Jurgen Klopp's mass-rotation saw the most disjointed performance of the season from Liverpool while those fringe players afforded an opportunity to shine comprehensively failed to rise to the occasion. The fallacy of Liverpool's claims to boast a greater squad depth has been laid bare; Divock Origi and Alberto Moreno in particular proving themselves to be woefully lacking in the quality demanded at Anfield while the frustrating Daniel Sturridge, despite all his natural talent, once again confirmed his mental fragility with an embarrassing absence of effort, desire or enthusiasm. Without their vaunted attacking trident of Salah, Mane and Firmino, the reality is that Liverpool are wafer-thin up front. Now in his third full season at Anfield Jurgen Klopp, like Mauricio Pochettino at Spurs, desperately needs to validate his tenure with tangible success in the form of silverware. With Man City and FC Bayern proving formidable foes in the Premier League and the Champions League respectively the FA Cup represented Liverpool's most realistic chance of winning a trophy. With that avenue now erased the pressure on Klopp and Liverpool to deliver the league title or the European Cup will be intensified, potentially to their detriment. Liverpool need to bounce back with a convincing display in their weekend fixture against Brighton. Their next five matches are eminently winnable with Crystal Palace, Leicester City, West Ham and Bournemouth following their trip to the south coast. More lethargic displays and dropped points will see momentum shift further towards Man City....and then FC Bayern roll into town!
