Amakhosi fans were greeted by good news as manager Bobby Motaung declared that captain Itumeleng Khune will be offered a new contract by the end of the week.
The news brought an end to speculation about Khune's future, and judging by his lotaly, he will most likely sign the new deal. However, this may come as bitter news to Brilliant Khuzwayo, who has taken the PSL by storm since coming into the line-up after Khune's long-term injury.
Khuzwayo played wonderfully for Amakhosi, claiming MOTM awards for his outrageous perfomances - which in the end, earned him a Bafana Bafana call-up. However just before the mid-season break, Khuzwayo's form started to drop, and he started conceeding goals on a regular basis for Amakhosi.
The match load may have become too much for him, and suddenly Amakhosi fans realised the importance of Khune. With Khune now having fully recovered from injury, it is all expected that he will get the nod ahead of Khuzwayo.
The remainder of the season is a very crucial part of the season, and its no secret that the experienced Khune is likely to be chosen. Khuzwayo will also be given rest due to his participation in the AFCON, and will give Khune time to fully regain his form and retain the number one jersey, as well as the armband.
Khuzwayo has proved he is a good goalkeeper but still needs to mature more. Whether he will choose to stay as second choice, go out on-loan or leave on a permanent move remains to be seen.
What should Khuzwayo do?
