Doctor Khumalo is one of the most respected legends in South African football and ‘16V’ worked with many coaches at Kaizer Chiefs. Yet, with all his experience, he wasn’t given a chance at a coaching role at Chiefs.
With the likes of Eric Tinkler, Dan Malesela, Pitso Mosimane, Steve Komphela, Shaun Bartlett and newly appointed Cape Town City coach, Benni McCarthy, making their name as head coaches, the former Bafana player should leave his comfort zone, unless he wants to forever be number two. Doc has enough experience to lead any PSL team, but Chiefs won’t be the right place to start.
Khumalo and Teboho Moloi were supposed to be the Zinedine Zidane and Pep Guardiola of Pirates and Chiefs, but it looks like the Soweto giants don’t believe in people who know the culture of their teams. Doc must follow in Tinkler's footsteps because the more local young coaches we have the better. Chiefs will soon find their identity, but they need brave legends to achieve this.
Should Doctor leave Chiefs to test himself somewhere else and where he can get top coaching position?
