Maritzburg United confirmed that coach, Roger De Sa, has parted ways with the club after just over two months in charge.
De Sa took over the club, following his departure from Ajax Cape Town, on 10 January after the club parted ways with Ernst Middendorp towards the end of last year. However, since then, after seven games in charge, he only managed to win one game. With the club sitting 10th on the table, only four points ahead of 15th placed Free State Stars, De Sa’s short spell at the club will certainly not be considered a highlight of his coaching career.
Meanwhile, the South African national team has been without a coach since the end of December last year, following Shakes Mashaba’s dismissal. The appointment of a new coach has been complicated due to Mashaba contesting his dismissal and now, De Sa, who was originally linked with the job, has emerged as a candidate.
Da Sa has a decent record as a coach, with 15 years of experience in the PSL, and has coached the likes of Wits University (Bidvest Wits), Santos and Orlando Pirates, winning five major trophies. This makes him an ideal candidate for the Bafana job, especially considering that he’s now free to take the post.
Do you think Roger De Sa will be the next Bafana coach?
