Kaizer Chiefs' fan favorite, Hendrick Ekstein, hasn't played to his so called "full potential". A lot has been said about him when he was still playing for Kaizer Chiefs Reserve team.
He joined Amakhosi in July 2014 and made a name for himself in the Multi Choice Diski Challenge (Reserve League), and when Steve Komphela took over from Stuart Baxter in the beginning of this season, he was promoted to the first team.
The Bekkersdal-born creative midfielder started the season like a house on fire and he scored a wonderful goal against Maritzburg United in the MTN8 Cup first round.Since then, he has been coming in as a a sub and also started in few games. Ekstein was even labeled as the new "Jabu (Pule) Mahlangu by some of Amakhosi Fans!
He made his breakthrough to the first team at age 25 years, and he made only 10 appearances in the Absa Premiership with no goals or any assists so far. Comparing him to an up-and-coming player like Phakamani Mahlambi, who has 14 PSL appearances, 5 goals and 2 assists, at the age of 18. Phakamani is currently out injured.
Does Hendrick Ekstein deserve to wear the Gold and Black Jersey? Is he the right player for Chiefs? Or is Chiefs too Big for him?
