Kaizer Chiefs' poor run in the league has continued as they were held to a draw by Platinum Stars on Wednesday night.
Even though fans may not agree with the idea that Steve Komphela should remain at the helm of Amakhosi, it doesn't help when results are not forthcoming. Komphela's tactics in that game were baffling. He opted to go with two defensive midfielders and two central midfielders in the game. There was no creative midfielder.
The body language of some players on the field also spoke volumes. One could see that there was no joy in their play, and none of them played for the coach. Something is clearly off at Naturena, I just can't establish what it is. I can't help thinking Komphela's days are clearly numbered at Phefeni, it won't be too long before a new coach is hired.
If Komphela is to be relieved of his duties, I believe it would be great for Amakhosi to shop locally for a new coach. There's no coach more suitable to take over from Bra Steve other than Gordon Igesund. The 60-year-old mentor has been great in his coaching career, and has succeeded with average teams on occasions.
In all honesty, Chiefs are now an average team and can't be counted amongst the best in the country at the moment. Igesund knows how to grind out results, even with minimal resources. He won the Championship with Manning Rangers and Santos, respectively. These were small teams back in the day compared to Chiefs, Sundowns, Swallows and Pirates.
He has also won the league with four different clubs, and also won several cups. Surely he could turn Chiefs' tables around. And it appears that Igesund is currently unattached to any club, and he would surely welcome the chance to be in the Absa Premiership after being out for so long.
Do you think Gordon Igesund should be the man to take over from Steve Komphela?
