“Can Gavin Hunt succeed Jonevret?” – Reader’s Voice

Gavin Hunt, who has won his fourth PSL title, deserves to be recognised for his achievements in South African football.

In Dr Irvin Khoza’s made it clear in his statement before he unveiled Kjell Jonevret as Orlando Pirates’ head coach, that the man they wanted, was tied down in a contract elsewhere and he had a clause which would make it impossible for the Buccaneers to get him, unless they waited until May for the clause to expire.

There were rumours that the man in question was Gavin Hunt and with Bidvest Wits contending for the league title at that time, it was obvious Wits wouldn't allow Hunt to move on until the league title was decided.

Some even suggested that Benni might be the man Khoza cannot get, as the former Bafana striker works at SuperSport. With the new reports about Jonevret’s clause in his contract, the Swedish-born's time with Pirates will depend on where the team finishes in the league and how they do in the Nedbank Cup.

Should he fail to finish in the top eight and fail to win the Nedbank Cup, Bucs’ management might release him and go for their possible first choice, Gavin Hunt, who has proven that he has an eye for talent. His teams also don't just depend on buying experienced players and he trusts youngsters and players from the development ranks.

Can Gavin Hunt succeed Jonevret as Bucs coach? Who was the man with the contractual clause?
