The South African Premier Division is the highest division of South African Football league system.
It was founded in 1996, and since it was formed, the are only five players who managed to score 20+ goals in the PSL. This year marks the 20th year of the PSL era. Wilfred Mugeyi (Bush Bucks) was the first player to score more than twenty goals in a PSL era, he scored 22 goals in 1996/97 season, but his record was broken the next season by Daniel Mudau (Mamelodi Sundowns) with 24 goals.
The season after that Mudau's record was almost broken by Pollen Ndlanya (Kaizer Chiefs) with 21 goals, other strikers tried the following seasons but failed to score 20 goals, players like: Dennis Lota (Pirates) - 18 goals, Gilbert Mushangazhike (Rangers) - 19 goals, Ishmael Maluleka (Rangers) - 18 goals, Lesley Manyathela (Pirates) - 18 goals, then in 2003/04 season we saw a low scoring season and the top goalscorer was Jackie Ledwaba (Zulu Royals) scoring only 14 goals, but the following season Daniel Mudau's record was finally broken by Zambian hit man Collins Mbesuma (Chiefs) with 25 goals.
After that season, strikers no striker managed to score more than 15 goals, until 2008/09, when Richard Henyekane (Arrows) scored 19 goals, Katlego Mphela (Sundowns) scored 17 goals the following season, and in 2011/12 Siyabonga Nomvethe (Swallows) was the Firth player in the PSL era to score 20 goals.
Only five players managed to score 20 and plus goals since the PSL was formed in 1996. And this is who they are:
Mugeyi (22 goals) - 1996/97
Mudau (24 goals) - 1997/98
Ndlanya (21 goals) - 1998/99
*Mbesuma (25 goals) - 2004/05
*Nomvethe (20 goals) - 2011/12
When and which player will score 20+ goals in the PSL again? Who will break Collins Mbesuma's record?
