With Orlando Pirates showing no improvement in terms of results since the departure of Muhsin Ertugral, one would wonder if Dr Irvin Khoza made the right decision when hired Kjell Jonevret instead of fan favourites, Benni McCarthy and Ruud Krol?
Under the Swedish born mentor, Pirates players look as confused as him, with Jonevret hardly seen giving instructions to the players. His team struggles to put passes together and they lose position cheaply. The players lack dedication, discipline and are poor from the start to the end. Abbubaker Mobara is seemingly the only player who give his all for the team and he's the best performer, but Jonevret always takes him off and plays Issa Sarr, Oupa Manyisa, Thamsanqa Gabuza and Thabo Rakhale, who are consistently giving less.
Dove Wome's exclusion leaves more questions about Kjell as a coach. Wome has scored more goals than both Tendai Ndoro and Gabuza in 2017, but he has no place in Jonevret's line up. One could still believe that McCarthy would do much better than Jonevret because, firstly, McCarthy knows Pirates and he worked with some of the players during his playing days. Benni also respects the Pirates supporters, so he would demand nothing less than 100%. He would only field those who are willing to die for the supporters. It seems Jonevret looks more like a statue on the sidelines.
Where do you think Pirates gonna finish this season? Can Kjell make it to the top8?
