Bafana Bafana beat Nigeria for the first time in a competitive match and this had brought smiles to millions of South Africans.
Head coach, Stuart Baxter, proved his doubters wrong by winning his first game since he was reappointed in May. The team played very well and they were not afraid of Nigeria's quality as a team. They defended very well and played good counter-attacking football, using the pace of Keagan Dolly, Tokelo Rantie and Percy Tau.
Baxter chose his starting XI according to his game plan, with the likes of Andile Jali and Kermit Erasmus not playing. We saw the likes of Themba Zwane and Ramahlwe Mphahlele playing their hearts out to win the game.
Stuart Baxter also used his substitutes wisely introducing the Mamelodi Sundowns attacker, Percy Tau, for the brave Tokelo Rantie, and the energetic Lebohang Manyama for Vilakazi and to make sure they keep a clean sheet, he brought on Tiyani Mabunda for Keagan Dolly to tighten up the midfield.
It looks like Baxter knows what he’s doing and this might be the beginning of good things for our football.
