The Siya crew reported last night that the club had officially opened up talks with Tokelo Rantie after he impressed during a lengthy training spell at Chloorkop, with indications that he was likely to land himself a deal with Masandawana.
Now, with Brockie having joined Maritzburg United, it has been revealed that the 28-year-old has agreed a three-year deal with Sundowns – thought to be a one-year plus two-year option – as he becomes their latest signing at the club.
The player's representative, Kgori Dinho Mokoro, gave a statement saying, "Yes it is true... Tokelo 'TK' Rantie has signed with Mamelodi Sundowns. I can only thank Coach Pitso (Mosimane) who gave 'TK' a chance when everyone else had written him off. Yes, 'TK' did have personal problems, but that is all behind him now - my client just wants to play football and enjoy the game. Once again thanks to Coach Pitso and also KB (Rangoaga - Sundowns fitness coach)."
It remains to be seen how long ‘TK’ will have to wait before breaking into Mosimane’s first team plans, but Sundowns’ heavy schedule for the season could see him given a chance in the coming weeks, especially with fellow new signing, Mauricio Affonso, battling with injury.
Rantie joins Masandawana after a difficult spell in his career that included tough spells with Gençlerbirliği in Turkey and Cape Town City, but will now be hoping to get back on track in Tshwane under the tutelage of one of Mzansi’s best head coaches.
