Komphela Hopes To Maintain Title Pressure
Kaizer Chiefs coach Steve Komphela feels a win over Chippa United this afternoon could have a butterfly effect on the Absa Premiership title race.
Amakhosi head into Saturday's FNB Stadium encounter six points adrift of second-placed Orlando Pirates and a further point behind league leaders Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand over both Soweto giants.
Sundowns only play 24 hours later, against top-eight chasing Baroka FC, while Orlando Pirates' next fixture is on Wednesday, away to SuperSport United.
Komphela expects a win for the Glamour Boys today would leave the Brazilians and Buccaneers anxiously looking over their shoulders and could create the opportunity for their rivals to slip up along the way.
When asked about the focus against the Chilli Boys this afternoon, Komphela told SuperSport; "Maintain the pressure, and the beauty of it is that you're not on top there where everybody's shooting at you.
"[But] just two, three steps and you're looking at watching, and a slight slip up [from Sundowns or Pirates] will give unbelievable confidence to the ones approaching and it will shake the confidence of the ones above.
"So this is a stage of the competition where nobody wants any slip-ups so we just have to stay switched on, be in the game and utilise the chances we get."
