The Investec DreamPlay tournament finals take place this weekend, with 14 SAFA Cape Town-affiliated community clubs competing for a chance to send 20 of their best players into the Investec Elite Academy, where they’ll have a chance to play in Europe.
“Embarking on this Investec DreamPlay Programme has opened up an avenue to reach players from the backstreet football of our townships which will unearth, what I believe, future superstars.” Stated John Comitis, Founder of the Investec DreamPlay Programme, “The prize money is big. The stage has been set. The 20 best talents on the day will enter into the Investec Elite academy.”
“The Investec DreamPlay programme aims to provide a platform and expertise for players to go from the streets of township football to clubs in Europe.” Janet Larsen, Investec South Africa.
A total of 56 SAFA Cape Town-affiliated community clubs took part in playoffs on the 12th and 13th March 2016, with the 14 qualifying teams competing in this weekend’s Investec DreamPlay tournament finals.
The 14 teams are: Stephanian Ottery, Strandfontein AFC, Zimasa FC, Clover FC, Winners Park FC, Project Playground (PPG), Mobz Academy, XI Swallows FC, Lansdowne FC, JMI Cape Town, Joburg Strikers, Bishop Lavis FC, Trinitarians FC and KTC All Stars FC.
Two more teams will be added to the roster to make up the Super 16 teams, with SAFA CPT Select Team (top players selected from the 56 teams that took part in the DreamPlay playoffs) and Anchor Comprehensive School (winners of the Investec Soccer League 2015) joining the finals.
The Super 16 teams will begin competing on Saturday 2 April at 10am with the last match starting at 4pm. Sunday’s action starts at 9am, with the plate final at 2pm. Then comes the highly contested Champs Final at 3pm at Erica Park Stadium in the Western Cape.
We wish these youngsters all the best.
